Jonas Blixt: 2014 Masters Runner-Up

April 13, 2014

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Former Seminole Jonas Blixt (’08) finished tied for second in his first appearance at Augusta National. Blixt posted a 1-under 71 on Sunday to post under par scores on all four of his rounds in his Masters debut.

“I am extremely proud of Jonas’s performance this week,” said head coach Trey Jones who has been in Augusta since mid-week. “Runner-up in his first Masters is an amazing accomplishment. He played well enough to win, he just needed a break or two, or for a putt to drop. I know he will use this as part of his learning process as he works toward becoming one of the top golfers in the world.

“He always represents Seminole Nation with class and dignity. We are appreciative of the support and good luck messages he received from Seminoles around the country.”

Starting the day with an even par on the front nine, Blixt turned up his play beginning with a birdie on hole 13 to move into second place and two strokes behind first place Bubba Watson. After saving par on 17, Blixt had a perfect drive off the tee box on 18 to finish the day with a par.

Blixt earned his spot with a top-four finish at the 2013 PGA Championship in his second career start in a major. He has won two PGA titles, the 2012 Frys.com Open and the 2013 Greenbrier Classic.

Blixt is the first Florida State player since 2009 to make an appearance at the Masters. Former Seminole Drew Kittleson qualified in 2009 as a sophomore at Florida State by finishing second at the U.S. Amateur earlier that year.

Florida State golfers have won four major championships, Hubert Green the 1977 U.S. Open and the 1985 PGA Championship, Paul Azinger the 1993 PGA Championship and Jeff Sluman the 1988 PGA Championship.
