TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Two shutouts and three points on a goal and an assist helped Florida State’s Kassey Kallman land a spot on TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week. The sophomore defender played a vital role in leading the Seminoles to a pair of home victories over New Mexico and North Florida last weekend.
Kallman played every minute of every game for Florida State and was a key contributor in the Seminole backline in helping post back-to-back shutouts this past weekend. The Woodbury, Minn., native was also a catalyst for the Seminole offense in both matches as she scored a goal, the game-winner, in a 1-0 victory over New Mexico and assisted on a goal in a 5-0 win over North Florida. Her goal against the Lobos came off a throw-in as she found the back of the net on a header in the 10th minute of play. The game-winner was the second of her career.
On the defensive side of things, Kallman and the Seminoles limited the opposition to 11 shots in two games including just four shots on goal. In Sunday’s shutout against North Florida, FSU held the Ospreys to only two shots the whole game.
Kallman is the first Seminole to earn a weekly honor this year, while it marks the second time she has been recognized by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
After posting a perfect weekend in which Florida State outscored the opposition 6-0, the Seminoles climbed the rankings in two of the three national polls, while dropping a spot from seventh to eighth in the Soccer Times top 25 rankings. FSU ranks as high as seventh by the NSCAA and moved up a spot to No. 10 in the Soccer America poll.
The Seminoles are back in action at the Seminole Soccer Complex on Friday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m. against No. 11 Marquette. FSU defeated the Golden Eagles 3-0 in Tallahassee a season ago, a match played in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
