Ken Lanier moved into a starting role at offensive tackle in the second game of his freshman season in 1977 and he started every game over the rest of his career. His career coincided with FSU’s rise on the national scene with back-to-back Orange Bowl appearances against Oklahoma and a 39-8 record over his four years. Lanier won All-South Independent honors both his junior and senior years, and as a senior in 1980 was chosen second team Associated Press All-American an honor that, at the time, had only been accomplished by two other FSU offensive linemen. The Denver Broncos made Lanier their fifth round draft pick and he started for the Broncos from 1981-92 starting four Super Bowls.
