Kinhult Continues To Lead Golf At Schooner

NORMAN, Okla. ( – Sophomore All-American Frida Kinhult is in a tie for second place in the individual standings, and the No. 13 ranked Florida State Women’s Golf Team is in eighth place in the team standings with one round of play remaining in the Schooner Fall Classic at the Belmar Golf Club. Kinhult carded a 3 under par score of 67 in the second round and enters play in the final round only one stroke out of the individual leads as she plays for the third tournament championship of her Seminole career.

Oklahoma, the host school, is in first place in the team standings with a one stroke leads over Texas. The Seminoles are only three strokes from moving into the top five in the team standings. Mikhaela Fortuna, who carded a 67 in the second round, is the overall individual leader with a 135 total for the first two rounds of the event. Florida State’s Kinhult is tied for second place in the individual standings with Kaitlyn Papp of Texas – both golfers have identical scores of 136.

“Frida is playing really good golf right now,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “As a team we are close, but we haven’t played as well as I know we can. Hopefully tomorrow is that day.”

Kinhult is tied for second place with scores of 69 and 67 for a 36-hole total of 136. Her two-round total of 136 is tied for her career best she also carded a 36-hole total of 136 in winning the individual championships at both the fall 2018 Jim West Challenge and the spring 2019 Darius Rucker Challenge. Kinhult has now carded first and second round scores in the 60’s for the second time in her Seminole career. She carded scores of 68-68 in the first and second rounds in winning the spring 2019 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.

In Saturday’s second round, Kinhult carded four birdies and 17 holes scored at par or better. After a birdie on her sixth hole, Kinhult finished the round at 4 strokes under par over her last 12 holes. She carded consecutive birdies on holes 11 and 12 and closed the round with fourth birdie on her final hole of the round. Kinhult was a total of four strokes under par on her final eight holes.

Sophomore Amelia Williamson carded a 1 over par score of 71 and has a two-round total of 147. She improved her second round score by five strokes after carded a 76 in the first round. Senior Amanda Doherty and sophomore Puk Lyng Thomsen carded scores of 73 in the second round.

The Seminoles enter the final round as the highest placing of the five ACC teams in the event. The Seminoles are ahead of Clemson (ninth), Louisville (10th), Notre Dame (12th) and Miami (tied for 13th).

Florida State will play with Houston and Clemson in the third and final round with tee times beginning at 9:30 ET.
