PALOS VERDES, Calif. (seminoles.com) – Freshman Frida Kinhult is in a tie for second place in the individual standings, and the Seminole women’s golf team is in eighth place in the team standings with one round remaining to be played at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge. Kinhult carded the best round of the day – a 3 under par 68 – and begins play in Tuesday’s final round only three strokes out of the lead as she plays for her second career collegiate championship. She won the individual title at the Jim West Challenge during the fall of 2018.

No. 20 Florida State improved its team score by 17 strokes and jumped up four places on the leader board as they moved from a tie for 12th place after the first round into eighth place following 36 holes of play. The Seminoles’ 14-stroke improvement was the second best in the field of 16 teams in the second round behind only a 17-stroke improvement by Oklahoma State. The Seminoles and the Cowgirls both moved up by four positions in the team standings – tied for the best team improvement – on what is considered to be moving day in the team standings.

No. 13 Stanford shot a second round best team total of 279 and moved into the lead in the team standing. The Cardinal owns a six stroke lead over No. 12 ranked and defending champion UCLA in the race for the team championship. Florida State is only eight strokes out of fifth place as it begins the final round of play. Andrea Lee of Stanford, the only golfer in the field who has carded below par scores in the first two rounds, is the individual leader with a two-day total of 140. She is the only golfer who has a cumulative score below par.

“We had a good round on moving day,” said Seminole Head Coach Amy Bond. “Having a round on the course under our belt allowed each of the girls to be more confident. They all handled the elements well again today and really held their own. We made a move and are looking forward to making another move tomorrow. Frida played a very good round; it was the best round of the day individually.”

Kinhult finished the second round with a 3-under par score of 68 – the seventh time in 13 collegiate rounds that she has carded a 68 or better. She totaled five birdies and was five under par over her final 12 holes to move from a tie for 17th place in the individual standings after the first round and into a tie for second place after two rounds. Kinhult was as many as three strokes below par during the round after uncharacteristically spending the entire first round above par.

“I was much better on the greens today than I was yesterday,” said Kinhult. “I hit the ball well on both days but I got some more putts to drop for me today. I didn’t give much thought to yesterday’s score; I viewed yesterday as a practice round. I learned a lot from the first round and got my game going today which helped my score.”

Kinhult has carded seven of her first 13 rounds as a Seminole in the 60’s and has played only three of her 13 rounds above par.

Junior All-American Amanda Doherty shot a 3-over par 74 in the second round as she improved upon her first round score by five strokes. She carded her first two birdies of the tournament including a birdie on her final hole of the round to drop her score to a 74. Doherty is in a tie for 47th place in the individual standings.

Freshman Amelia Williamson enjoyed a score of 74 in the second round – an improvement of 11 strokes from her first round score. She carded three birdies in the second round as compared to only one the first round.

With 14 of the 16 teams ranked in the nation’s top 25 by Golfstat, the No. 20 Seminoles are currently ahead of No. 3 Florida, No. 5 Alabama, No. 8 Arizona State and No. 19 Washington in the team standings.

Florida State will play the final round of the power-packed tournament with Wake Forest, Oklahoma State and Arizona with the entire field starting play at 11:30 ET.
