NORMAN, Okla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State sophomore All-American Frida Kinhult is in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings, and the No 13 Seminole Women’s Golf team is in fifth place in the team standings after the first round of the Schooner Fall Classic at the Belmar Golf Club. Kinhult, one of nine players in the 81-player field who carded a below par score on the par 70 course, is just three strokes out of the lead as she plays for the third individual championship of her career.

Oklahoma, the host school, is in first place in the team standings and one stroke ahead of Texas. Florida State only seven strokes out of first place. The Seminoles are looking to win the team championship at the Schooner Classic for the second time after finishing in first place in 2017. Claro Moyano of Mississippi State is in first place in the individual standings with a 4 under par score of 66 in the first round.

“It was an extremely windy day,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “We didn’t have our best stuff, but we hung in there to keep pace. The forecast for tomorrow is similar to today; I’d like to see us make a few less mistakes and a few more birdies in the second round.”

Kinhult led the Seminoles with three birdies ad 15 holes played at par or better. She was never more than 1 stoke over par and was as many as 2 strokes under par after consecutive birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. Kinhult carded two birdies on her first nine and two on her back nine. Her score of 69 was her 14th career single round score in the 60’s and the third best first round score of her Seminole career.

Kinhult is tied for fourth with five other players and only one stoke from moving into the top three in the individual standings.

Sophomore Beatrice Wallin, who was the Seminoles’ top finisher in the season-opening Cougar Classic, is in a tie for 19th place after the first 18 holes with a two over par score of 72. She was 1 over par with one birdie and 12 holes played at par over her final 13 holes of the first round. Wallin has carded three of her first four scores of the season at 72 or better and is a cumulative total of three strokes under par in her first two fall events.

Senior Amanda Doherty and sophomore Puk Lyng Thomsen are in a tie for 36th in the individual standings as both players carded identical score of 74. Doherty totaled a team-leading five birdies while Thomsen carded 13 holes at par or better with one birdie. Sophomore Amelia Williamson totaled two birdies and finished the day with a score of 76.
