FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (seminoles.com) – Freshman Frida Kinhult is in a tie for 27th place in the individual standings, and the Florida State Women’s Golf team is in a tie for 18th place in the individual standings after the first round of the NCAA Division I Championship Finals at the Blessings Golf Club. The course played as tough as any in recent NCAA Championships memory with up to 30 miles per hour wind blowing throughout the round.

The NCAA Championship Finals consists of four rounds of stroke play to determine the individual national champion and three rounds of match play with the top eight teams after stroke play competing to decide the team champion. After three rounds of stroke play the original field of 24 teams will be cut to 15 and then cut to eight again after the fourth round. The Seminoles are only six strokes below the cutline to finish in 15th place or better and move into the final round of stroke play.

No. 2 Texas and No. 10 Arkansas lead the team standings with identical 10 over par team scores of 302. The Longhorns and the Razorbacks (on their home course) were the only team to finish at 10 strokes above par or better. Bianca Pagdanganan of Arizona is the individual leader as she carded a first round score of 4 under par 69. She finished as one of only four golfers in the field at under par through the first 18 holes.

“It was just one of those days when the golf course really showed its teeth,” said Head Coach Amy Bond. “We are all in good spirits and are looking forward to putting together a good round tomorrow. The more this team is on a course, the more comfortable all of the girls get and that’s what I expect tomorrow. It’s going to be a good day for a comeback and I know this group will be ready to go tomorrow.”

Kinhult led the Seminoles with her 4 over par score of 77. She carded two birdies and was two strokes under par on her final five holes of her round. She carded 13 holes at par or better with two birdies. Kinhult is only three strokes from moving into the top five of the individual standings.

Florida State will play with Stanford and Vanderbilt in Saturday’s second round. The trio of teams will tee off beginning at 9:06 ET.
