TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( – Florida State golfer Frida Kinhult, the No. 1 ranked player in the nation by both Golfstat and Golfweek, was named to the Player and Freshman of the Year Watch Lists by the WGCA. Both award winners will be announced after medal play on May 20 – at the conclusion of medal play at the upcoming NCAA Championship Finals.

Kinhult and her Florida State teammates are the No. 9 seeded team entering the championship which begins Friday (May 17) at the Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Ark. The Seminoles finished in second place at the NCAA Auburn Regional Championship last week and are competing in the NCAA Championship Finals for the school-record fourth consecutive year.

Kinhult is the only freshman on the Player of the Year Watch List and the only golfer included on both the Player and Freshman of the Year Watch Lists.

“I wouldn’t be in this position without my teammates and our coaches,” said Kinhult. “It’s exciting to have the opportunity to spend this week with them and be in a position to compete for a national championship.”

Kinhult enters the NCAA Championship with the lowest scoring average in the nation – 70.23 – as she challenges the current Florida State stroke average record of 72.52 by Matilda Castren (2014-17). She is ranked first nationally in scoring average (70.23), first in the nation in score versus par (-1.31), first in the nation in par four scoring (4.00), third in the nation in par three scoring (2.99) and third in the nation in par five scoring (4.65). Kinhult has carded 12 of her 26 rounds in the 60’s (.462 percent), 189 of her 26 rounds at par or better (.730 percent) and 24 or her 26 rounds at 75 or better (.923 percent).

Kinhult is a total of 34 strokes under par for the ENTIRE year and has finished seven of her nine tournaments below par. She has finished eight of her nine events as a Seminole at or below par and finished in the top 10 of eight of her nine starts as a Seminole.

Kinhult tied the school record with a 65 in the second round of the Jim West Challenge (her first career victory), tied the school record with a 14 under par score of 202 in the Jim West Challenge and enters the NCAA Championship Finals looking to become the first freshman (and player) in school history to win not only an NCAA individual title but also three individual championships. Kinhult also win the individual title in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.

In challenging the Seminoles’ all-time career stroke average, she is also challenging Florida State’s single-season stroke average record (70.23). She already holds three of the top-15 three round tournament scores in school history.
