Kinhult, Women’s Golf Leading After Two Rounds At Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. ( – Florida State freshman Frida Kinhult is in first place in the individual standings, and the No. 16 Seminoles are in first in the team standings following the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Kinhult, who is ranked as the No. 4 women’s golfer in the country according to GolfStat, continued her dominant play as she shot a three-under par round score of 68 and leads the 90-player field by one stroke entering the final round of play on Sunday.

After finish six birdies and 15 holes at par or better in the first round, Kinhult did not miss a beat in the second. She hit an identical three-under par 68, six birdies and 15 holes at par or better on the second day and brought her two-day score to a six-under 136, giving her a one-shot lead over Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest (-5; 137) and a three-shot lead over Gina Kim of Duke (-3; 139).

As a team, Florida State sits in a comfortable eight-shot lead over Duke (+5; 573) on top of the team leaderboard, as they are the only team to have a below-par score (-3; 565) and are tied for the tournament lead with 25 birdies.

After a first round in which she birdied five of her first nine holes, Kinhult provided a balanced second round. Kinhult hit three birdies on each the front and back-nine, bringing her tournament total to 12 birdies.

Kinhult enters Sunday looking for her second career tournament victory after she won the Jim West Challenge (Oct. 28-29) with a 14-under par score of 202 in the event.

“I played solid golf today,” said Kinhult.  “I kept to my game plan and made some putts.  I’m going keep doing what I’ve done in the first two days and keep to my routine.”

The Fiskebackskil, Sweden, native continues her dominant start to her Seminole career. In her 16 collegiate cards, the freshman holds a stroke average of 69.38 and has 13 rounds at par or better.

Looking for its first team win of the season, Florida State moved up in the star-studded field after finishing second after the first day of competition. The event features 15 ranked teams, according to GolfStat, including No. 3 Duke, No. 4 UCLA, No. 6 Arkansas, No. 7 Vanderbilt and No. 10 South Carolina.

The Seminoles are one of two teams that feature two golfers in the top-10 of individual competition, as All-American Amanda Doherty finished the second round tied for 10th with a one-over two-round score of 143.

After shooting even par in the first round where she carded four birdies and 15 holes at par or better, Doherty provided a steady hand for the Seminoles on the second day, finishing her second round with a one-over score of 72 where she carded one birdie and 16 holes at par or better.

Freshman Puk Lyng Thomsen showed a consistent stroke throughout the second day, as she shot a career-best one-under par 70, hitting birdies on the ninth and 10th hole. Her one-under par score marked the first time in her career she shot under-par for a single round.

Thomsen continues to climb the leaderboard throughout the three-day event, as she now sits in a tie for 27th with a four-over score of 146.  She sits three strokes behind the top 10 in the individual standings.

Florida State begins the third round of play in the leaders group and is paired with ACC foes Duke and Wake Forest. Freshman Amelia Williamson begins competition for the Noles as she tees off at 9:40 a.m. est. Freshman Beatrice Wallin tees off at 9:50, Thompson tees off at 10:00 a.m., Doherty at 10:10 a.m. and Kinhult at 10:20.
