TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Senior Alex Knaff (Luxembourg, Luxembourg) earned ITA Southeast Region Senior Player of the Year on Monday as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Knaff was a mainstay at the top of the lineup for the Seminoles in 2020. He finished with a 7-3 singles record and a 7-4 doubles record as all of his matches were played on the top court. He earned three ranked singles wins and one ranked doubles win. Knaff finished the season ranked 74th but got as high as No. 56 during the season.
Knaff won his first match of the season against No. 58 Maxime Lapraille of FAU 6-3, 6-3 and picked up his second-ranked singles win on court one against No. 21 Mississippi State when he defeated No. 15 Giovanni Oradini 5-7, 7-6, 6-4. He picked up his third, ranked win over Oklahoma’s No. 107 Jake Van Emburgh 6-2, 6-3.
He played all of his doubles matches with two different partners. Knaff earned a 3-1 record with junior Sebastian Arcila and a 4-3 record with freshman Loris Pourroy.
Knaff’s stellar 2020 season helped lead Florida State to an 11-4 record with two wins over ranked teams and a 2-1 record in the ACC.
