GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State’s Milica Kubura and Taryn Knuth were two of the 37 Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes selected to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Team, the league announced on Wednesday (Jan. 31).
With this honor, Kubura becomes the first Seminole to earn four All-ACC Academic recognitions in program history. This comes after she became the Seminoles’ first four-time All-ACC Team honoree, after being named to the All-Freshman team inn 2014, the Second Team in 2015 and earning two First Team recognitions in her final two seasons.
The Belgrade, Serbia native graduated in December of 2017 with a degree in Actuarial Science, and ended her college career leading the team with a 3.903 GPA.
As one of the most successful freshmen the program has ever seen, Knuth earned her sixth postseason award with her All-ACC Academic nod, and eighth accolade of her rookie campaign. Knuth currently holds a 3.932 GPA while pursuing a degree in Sport Management.
The ACC and AVCA East Region Freshman of the Year finished the 2017 season nationally ranked in two major categories, with 1.49 blocks per set (first in the ACC, 11th nationally) and 162 total blocks (third in the ACC, 17th nationally). Her 140 assisted blocks is the most earned by any freshman in program history, and her 1.49 blocks per set is the most by any freshman in the rally scoring era.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September of 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the awards must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their careers, as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the team.
