Knuth Lands Spot on’s All-Freshman Team

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Following a breakout rookie season, Florida State volleyball’s Taryn Knuth picked up another postseason honor, making an appearance on VolleyballMag’s 2017 All-Freshman Team.

This accolade gives Knuth five postseason awards following her freshman season with the Seminoles, and makes her the first player in FSU history to land a spot on Volleyball Magazine’s All-Freshman list.

“Taryn played great this season and will only get better with off season training,” said head coach Chris Poole. “She played very mature for a freshman and we are excited about her future.”

The ACC Freshman of the Year finished the 2017 season leading the team with 22 solo blocks, 140 assisted blocks, and 1.49 blocks per set. Knuth’s dominant defensive performance was supported by a huge offensive presence at the net, as she picked up 224 kills on 505 attacks to lead the offense at a clip of .319.

Knuth set the FSU record for freshman with her 140 assisted blocks this season, while her 1.49 blocks per set ranks second among freshmen in program history and fourth among all players in the rally scoring era. Her 162 total blocks ranks third among all freshmen in program history and eighth in the rally scoring era. She is one of only five players in the rally scoring era to place in the top-15 in solo blocks, assisted blocks, total blocks and blocks per set.

The Johnston, Iowa native ranks nationally in two different defensive categories; her 1.49 blocks per set sits at No. 11 in the country and leads the ACC, while her 162 total blocks ranks 17th in the nation and 3rd in the conference. 2017 All-Freshman Team
