Lady Noles Surge Into Finals At Lady Seminole Classic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — With two singles victories apiece at the Lady
Seminole Classic on Saturday, Florida State’s Alida Gallovits, Christina
Denny and Jessica Balbuena will all be playing for singles flight
championships in finals on Sunday, October 1, at the Scott Speicher Tennis
Gallovits, who was seeded No. 2 in Flight A singles, defeated two
Florida Gators, Edit Pakay 7-5, 6-1 and No. 6-seed Julia Scaringe 6-2, 6-4
and will face top-seeded Jessica Lehnhoff of Florida in the finals at 9
a.m. on Sunday. Denny, a freshman, was seeded No. 1 in Flight B singles.
She defeated Tamara Kaftalovich of Jacksonville 6-3, 6-1 and Auburn’s
Carolina Maurer 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. She will face teammate Balbuena, a fifth
seed, in the finals on Sunday at 9 a.m. Balbuena defeated Miami’s Sara
Robbins 6-3, 6-3 and No. 2-seed Florida International’s Marina Faustinelli
6-1, 6-4.
In the Flight B consolation bracket, FSU’s Christy Travis rebounded
from a loss on Friday to win three straight and advance to the finals of
the flight. Travis defeated Stetson’s Claudia Meza 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 and
Stetson’s Julie Dougherty 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday and will play FIU’s
Christina Campana in the consolation finals at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
In doubles play, the third-seeded team of Gallovits/ Balbuena
defeated Tina Harrison/Natalie Schwartz of South Florida, 9-8, but fell to
UF’s Edit Pakay/Lindsey Dawaf, 8-4, in the semifinals. The team of Marina
Raic/ Denny defeated Anneliesse Rose/Marina Faustinelli of FIU, 8-6, but
fell to UF’s top-seeded Jessica Lehnhoff/Julia Scaringe in the semifinals,
All singles finals of the Lady Seminole Classic will be played at 9
a.m. on Sunday with the doubles finals to follow.
