Lady Seminole Swimming & Diving Earn National Ranking At No. 21

Feb. 2, 2002

The Florida State women’s swimming and diving team earned 27 points in the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) national poll released Saturday to tie with Purdue at No. 21. The men’s squad (8-3) also received votes in the CSCAA poll for the first time this season, earning two points to place them in the “receiving votes” category.

This is the second time the Lady Seminoles (10-2) have cracked CSCAA’s top 25. Back on November 5, 2001, FSU’s women were ranked 25th, but dropped out of the top 25 following consecutive losses on the road to Clemson and Florida. The Lady Seminoles continued to receive votes but were unable to break back into the top 25 until this week, which included an upset victory over then No. 21 Alabama last Friday in Tallahassee.

The women will look to increase their win total this weekend when they travel to Baton Rouge, La. to take on LSU, Rice and Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday, February 2. The Lady Seminoles’ 10 wins this season is the most since a 10-win season back in 1990. The women’s squad will have a chance to surpass the all-time wins mark of 11 at FSU at this weekend’s meet.
