Lancashire Breaks School Record at Georgia Tech Meet

Atlanta, Ga. – The Florida State track and field team completed day one of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday, May 13, 2005 at the George C. Griffin Track in Atlanta, Ga.

Sophomore Tom Lancashire (Bolton, England/Turton) bettered his FSU-school record mark in the 1500m run, winning the event in 3:41.83. The time is the ninth fastest in the nation and tops in the conference and region.

Junior transfer Barbara Parker (Norfolk, England/Loughborough) and redshirt sophomore Garrett Johnson (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Baptist Academy) won their respective events. Parker took the 3000m steeplechase victory in a season-best clip of 10:23.90. Johnson posted his second farthest throw of the season in the shot put at 63’3.25″ (19.28m).

Sophomore Eric Critzer (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) was fourth in the 3000m steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 9:14.17.

Junior Kate Purcell (West Point, Pa./Southern Illinois-Edwardsville) finished in seventh place in the javelin with a throw of 129’8″ (39.52m). Sophomore Lindsey Nelson (Jacksonville, Fla./Mandarin) was 11th in the shot put, tossing 45’9.25″ (13.96m). Sophomore Charlene Walker (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) was 14th in the long jump with a distance of 18’6″ (5.64m).
