TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Atlantic Coast Conference announced earlier today that Florida State jumpers Ruta Lasmane and Isaac Grimes earned ACC Performer of the Week honors. Lasmane was named ACC Women’s Field Performer of the Week while Grimes was named ACC Men’s Co-Field Performer of the Week.
Lasmane receives this week’s honor after having a stellar debut in the Garnet & Gold this weekend at the Gamecock Opener. The freshman delivered a triple jump of 13.56m that shattered South Carolina Indoor Facility previous record of 11.89m. Her performance currently ranks second in NCAA Division I and stands as the second-best in FSU history.
“Ruta’s opener was spectacular and it’s her first of many ACC honors to come I’m sure,” said Florida State head coach Bob Braman.
Grimes shares the weekly honor with Virginia Techs’ Owayne Owen. The senior from Moreno Valley, Calif. opened the 2021 indoor season taking first-place finishes in both the long jump and triple jump at the Gamecock Opener. He ranks first in the nation in the long jump with the mark of 8.00m this past weekend and sixth nationally in the triple jump at (15.65).
“It is a deserving honor for Isaac. He’s put himself in the National Title discussion with that big jump,” said Braman.
Lasmane and Grimes along with the rest of the Florida State track and field team will be back in action Jan. 29 as they head to compete in the Bob Pollock Meet in Clemson, S.C.
