Lasmane, Grimes and Skyring Earn ACC Weekly Honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Atlantic Coast Conference has once again recognized three Florida State track and field athletes as performers of the week after their stellar performances at last weekend’s Tyson Invitational. Isaac Grimes and Ruta Lasmane earned the Men’s and Women’s ACC Field Performer of the Week honors while Maudie Skyring was named Women’s Track Performer of the Week.

This is the third time this season that both Grimes and Lasmane have been awarded these honors. Lasmane continued her season trend by jumping yet another personal best in the triple jump at last weekend’s invitational. Her massive distance of 13.83m led her to her third win in three meets, the distance also ranks the freshman second in the nation. In addition to this, it also places her second on the FSU all-time list.

Grimes also earns his third weekly honor after delivering an amazing personal record-breaking performance in the long jump. On top of bringing him a commanding victory, his distance of 8.33m also solidified his presence in the record books as it broke the 11-year-old ACC long jump record and is the best in Florida State history. Not only does this distance rank him first in the nation but it also currently ranks him first in the world and is the fifth longest jump in collegiate history.

Skyring earns her seasons first ACC Performer of the Week honor after anchoring the FSU’s DMR and achieving a personal best in the women’s mile. Her 4:32 mile split closed out an amazing DMR performance which posted an overall time of 10:57.24. This school record breaking effort place’s the Noles third in the nation. Skyring then followed this up by returning to run a personal best in the mile the next day. Her time of 4:34.98 ranks her sixth nationally and places her fifth on the FSU all-time list.

Lasmane, Grimes, Skyring and the rest of the Florida State track and field team turns its sights ahead to prepare for the ACC Indoor Championships starting on February 25th in Clemson, S.C.
