Li Records Top 5 Finish at Olympia Fields

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (Seminoles.com) – Make it another productive weekend for Florida State Men’s golf senior Jamie Li.

The native of Bath, England, tied for fourth at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sunday, exiting his stay at Olympia Fields Country Club by shooting even-par (68-71-71) over his three rounds played. It marks Li’s fourth Top-5 finish and his first since placing third out of 75 competitors at last year’s NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional.

Li has now led FSU in each of its two fall tournaments. He carded two birdies and three bogeys in his final round on Sunday, doing his best to tackle a challenging golf course that has given plenty of PGA TOUR players fits over the years. Li began his day with a birdie on the opening par-5 first hole, and added his other birdie on the par-3, 13th hole.

The senior leader had a shot at tying for third in the tournament, but he bogeyed on the long par-4, 496-yard 18th hole. Only six of the 84 golfers at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational managed to shoot even par or lower, and Li was one of them.

Baylor’s Cooper Dossey won the tournament after shooting 4-under. Georgia Tech and Baylor were co-champions after shooting 6-over each.

Florida State finished eighth in the field at 21-over (282-297-282). Despite moving itself out of contention on Saturday, FSU came back and shot 15 strokes better in its final round.

Junior John Pak tied for 14th in his fall debut, shooting 3-over (70-71-72) for the tournament. His lone birdie in the final round came on the 450-yard, par-4 17th hole.

Redshirt freshman Cole Anderson tied for 27th at 6-over (71-74-71). Senior Greyson Porter tied for 54th, while freshman Fletcher Wunderlich tied for 78th and sophomore Calvin Sierota tied for 80th.

FSU returns with the Jack Nicklaus Collegiate Invitational held Oct 7-8 at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio.
