Tallahassee – The Florida State women’s tennis team will host the Stetson Hatters tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, January 31st at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center at 12:00 p.m. The home match is the third in a series of six consecutive contests being held on the Tribe’s home court.

This match

Florida State will play the Stetson Hatters for the fifth time since the first match in the 1983 season. The Seminoles are coming off back-to-back, 7-0 home wins against Georgia Southern and Troy State to open the 2004 spring season. The Hatters, who faced Georgia Southern in their last outing, won 4-3.

Against the “Sun”

Florida State is undefeated against the Atlantic Sun Conference in 17 contests since 1981. The Tribe has played six teams over the last 22 years, to amass a 17-0 record: Central Florida, Florida Atlantic, Georgia State, Jacksonville, Stetson and most recently Troy State.

The Last Outing

Against Troy State, FSU swept the doubles and singles matches. The veteran Tribe doubles tandem of seniors Christina Denny and Brooke Cordell held the Trojans scoreless, winning 8-0. In singles action, senior Anca Dumitrescu (No. 63 – Nation, No. 10 – South Region) fought hard against Luisa Lopez (No. 30 South Region) at the number one position. Dumitrescu took Lopez to three sets in the win, finishing 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-2. In singles, Denny held her opponent scoreless for the second time this season, besting Tsitsi Masviba 6-0, 6-0 at the number three position.
