May 13, 2014

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Jack Maguire has been named the 2014 Men’s Golf ACC Freshman of the Year while he and sophomore Hank Lebioda were named to the All-ACC Team on Tuesday. Maguire is the second straight Seminole and third overall to be named ACC Freshman of the Year.

Maguire won two tournaments and finished in the top 10 in eight of 10 events in his rookie campaign. With a stroke average of 70.67, he is the second-highest ranked freshman in the country at No. 14 according to Golfstat, and is the third-highest from the ACC. At the USF Invitational in March, he carded the lowest round (62,-10) and the lowest tournament score in relation to par (-16) in program history.

“Jack is finishing up a great freshman season,” said head coach Trey Jones. “Being the top freshman in a very strong league is a great honor. Pending on how Jack finishes the season, more honors are soon to come.”

Lebioda, who was named ACC Freshman of the Year last year, is ranked No. 95 in the nation according to Golfstat as the ninth overall ACC golfer. This season the two-time honoree tied for first at the Gator Invitational and had two other top five finishes during the year.

“I am proud of Hank for rebounding from a tough start to the year and making the All-ACC team,” continued Jones. “This is one of Hank’s yearly goals and he has worked hard to achieve this honor.”

“It’s such an honor to be named to the All-ACC team again,” said Lebioda. “The coaching staff we have at Florida State has done an excellent job developing me into the player I am and I can’t thank them enough for their help.”

With Tuesday’s announcement by the Atlantic Coast Conference, it marks the eighth straight year multiple Seminoles were tabbed to the All-ACC team. Florida State was one of six schools to be represented on this year’s All-ACC Team and was the only school with underclassman selected.

Brooks Koepka was the third Seminole to be named as the Freshman of the Year which he won in 2009.

The All-ACC team and individual awards are voted upon by the league’s 12 head coaches.
