McBain and Chacon Named CCSA Pair of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After being named the AVCA/ National Pair of the Week on Tuesday Molly McBain and Alaina Chacon garnered CCSA Pair of the Week on Wednesday for their performance during the Hilton Head Island Invitational a week ago. The pair only dropped one set in four matches as they earned wins against three ranked teams including No. 10 Grand Canyon and No. 4 USC.

This is the 13th time in the last five seasons that a Seminole pair has earned such honor. This marks the third time that Chacon has been a part of the CCSA Pair of the Week as she earned the honor twice a season ago with Madison Fitzpatrick. This is McBain’s first regular-season conference honor.

McBain and Chacon Named CCSA Pair of the Week

McBain and Chacon have remained consistent all season long, only dropping two sets in 11 matches. Of those 11 matches, seven were against ranked teams and four of them against teams in the top-10. They are one of two pairs in the country to be 11-0 along with teammates Payton Caffrey and Liz Waters-Leiga.

The Florida State pair is one of two pairs in the country on court one to still be undefeated through the first two weeks of the season and are the two highest-rated players on’s MoVR individual rankings.

This past weekend McBain and Chacon followed up on their 7-0 weekend with another perfect 4-0 weekend. They started off the weekend with their first of three straight-set wins. This one came against No. 10 Grand Canyon. The FSU duo won the first set 21-19 and followed that up with a 21-17 second set win to give Florida State a 2-1 lead over the Antelopes.

They capped off day one of the Hilton Head Island Invitational with a 21-16, 21-15 win over No. 17 South Carolina, their second straight-set win of the season over Skylar Allen and Katie Smith of the Gamecocks.

Day two started with a complete domination of College of Charleston. McBain and Chacon did not allow more than 15 combined points in two sets. They cruised to a 21-6 first set win on their way to a 21-9 win in the final set.

McBain and Chacon wrapped up their weekend against No. 4 USC on court one. After falling behind a set, the pair in the Garnet and Gold would run of back to back sets, 21-17, 15-10 to get their fourth win of the weekend and 11th of the season.

McBain, Chacon and the rest of the Seminoles head to Jacksonville, Fla. This weekend to take on UNCW (11:30 AM) and UNF (1 PM) on Saturday, March, 7.
