TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State tight end Camren McDonald is on the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, it was announced Thursday.
In 2019, McDonald founded a 501(c)3 non-profit with the goal of changing lives and changing the world. His non-profit has a regular pizza donation program, hygiene kit giveaways, clothing drives and blanket giveaways, among other efforts. During last year’s shutdown, McDonald became a certified yoga instructor and offers free classes for the community and FSU students. For his efforts in the community, he was Florida State’s 2020 Bill McGrotha Humanitarian Award recipient.
McDonald, who was also named a Good Works Team nominee and to the Mackey Award Watch List last week, has appeared in 33 games with nine starts and made 29 receptions for 306 yards and two touchdowns. The redshirt junior from Long Beach, California, registered a career-high seven catches for a career-best 61 yards against Pitt. He caught a 12-yard touchdown pass in FSU’s 31-28 win over No. 5 North Carolina that proved to be the winning points. At No. 12 Miami, McDonald’s then-career-high six catches included his first collegiate touchdown.
The Wuerffel Trophy exists to honor college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society and inspire greater service in the world. It was established in 2005 and named after the 1996 Heisman Trophy winner and 2013 College Football Hall of Fame inductee.
Florida State has nine representatives on eight national award watch lists released so far in 2021. In addition to McDonald’s three watch lists, quarterback McKenzie Milton is on watch lists for the Maxwell Award and the Davey O’Brien Award, while linebacker Amari Gainer is on the Bednarik Award and Butkus Award watch lists and running backs Jashaun Corbin and Lawrance Toafili are on the Doak Walker Award Watch List.
