TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State tight end Camren McDonald has been nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, it was announced Wednesday.
McDonald has appeared in 33 games with nine starts and made 29 receptions for 306 yards and two touchdowns. The redshirt junior from Long Beach, California, registered a career-high seven catches for a career-best 61 yards against Pitt. He caught a 12-yard touchdown pass in FSU’s 31-28 win over No. 5 North Carolina that proved to be the winning points. At No. 12 Miami, McDonald’s then-career-high six catches included his first collegiate touchdown.
In 2019, McDonald founded a 501(c)3 non-profit with the goal of changing lives and changing the world. His non-profit has a regular pizza donation program, hygiene kit giveaways, clothing drives and blanket giveaways, among other efforts. During last year’s shutdown, McDonald became a certified yoga instructor and offers free classes for the community and FSU students. For his efforts in the community, he was Florida State’s 2020 Bill McGrotha Humanitarian Award recipient.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association to recognize the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. The final team consists of 23 award recipients, including 11 from FBS, and will be announced in September.
Florida State has been represented on each national awards watch list released so far in 2021. Quarterback McKenzie Milton is on watch lists for the Maxwell Award and the Davey O’Brien Award, while linebacker Amari Gainer is on the Bednarik Award Watch List and running backs Jashaun Corbin and Lawrance Toafili are on the Doak Walker Award Watch List.
Florida State opens its 2021 campaign by hosting Notre Dame on Sunday, Sept. 5. The season opener will air on ABC with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Season and single-game tickets are available here.
