Men’s Basketball Team Closes Out Tour Of Trinidad With Perfect 4-0 Record.

Juniors Alexander Johnson and Jerel Allen scored 14 points each and junior Al Thornton added 11 to lead the Florida State men’s basketball team to an 85-58 victory over the Trinidad Elite team in the final game of its four-game tour of the great island of Trinidad. The Seminoles finished the tour with a perfect 4-0 record and now set their sights on the official opening of practice for the 2005-06 season in October.

The Seminoles scored the first five points of the game and closed the second quarter on a 17-4 run to put themselves ahead comfortably. Florida State extended a 25-22 lead to 42-26 in the final seven minutes of the quarter. The Seminoles then extended their lead during the entire second half of the four-quarter game.

Johnson scored 14 points and came within two rebounds of his second double-double of the four game series. He made six free throws and also added a steal in the victory. He was a monster in the first half as he scored eight of his 14 points with most coming on dunks or short shots near the basket.

Allen played well in the backcourt for the Seminoles as he tied for team-high scoring honors to go along with three steals, two assists and one rebound. Allen made two of Florida State’s seven 3-point field goals on the day.

Thornton played will on both ends of the court with 11 points, six rebounds and six steals. Most of his six steals led directly to fastbreak baskets for the Seminoles. Thornton scored in double figures in all four games of the tour for Florida State.

Freshman Uche Echefu recorded his second double-double in as many days with 12 rebounds to go along with his 10 points. One of his made baskets came on a 3-point shot; he also made five of seven free throw attempts.
