TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The 17th-ranked Florida State Men’s Golf team concludes its fall season with the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate held on Oct. 3-4 at the University of Alabama’s Old Overton Country Club in Vestavia Hills, Ala.The Seminoles will participate in the tournament for a third consecutive year, finishing fourth last fall with a 7-under final score. Former player Hank Lebioda finished tied for fourth among the field, shooting a 5-under 205.
FSU will bring redshirt senior Cristobal Del Solar, senior Josh Lee, redshirt junior Harry Ellis, sophomore Corey Carlson and freshman Jake Carter. Del Solar leads the Seminoles with an average score of 70.00, while Lee is second at 72.33. Ellis continues to show improvement in his game, recording an average score of 72.67.
The Seminoles placed third at the season-opening Rod Myers Invitational at Duke and finished fifth at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational two weeks ago. Their best round of the young season so far are two rounds at 6-under (282) played at the Rod Myers Invitational.
There are 12 teams playing at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate: Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Charlotte, FSU, Michigan, Mississippi State, South Alabama, Texas-San Antonio, UAB and UNLV. Auburn (15), FSU (17) and Alabama (20) are the three teams competing who are ranked in the Golfstat Top 25.
The Crimson Tide have won the past four tournaments hosted at their home site. FSU hopes to continue its streak of winning at least one tournament in the fall, having won last year’s Olympia Fields Invitational, the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in 2014 and the FGCU Classic in 2014.
