Men’s Golf in Eighth Place at Cabo Collegiate Invitational

CABO, Mexico – Twin Dolphin’s Club proved to be a difficult test in the opening round of Sunday’s Cabo Collegiate Invitational. The ninth-ranked Florida State Men’s Golf team ended the first day in eighth place at 10-over, as one of the 15 competing schools managed to finish under par in Mexico.

Vanderbilt leads the field at 4-under, but the remaining 14 teams are at or above par. Florida State junior Frederik Kjettrup, who won the last tournament at the Watersound Invitational in record-setting fashion, leads the Seminoles in a tie for 17th at 1-over.

Kjettrup led Florida State with four birdies on Sunday, shooting a 1-over 72 in what was FSU’s best round of the afternoon. With a shot-gun start where he began on the fifth hole, Kjettrup shot a 39 on the course’s back nine, but picked it up on the finish by shooting a 33 on the front nine. Three of his four birdies recorded came on Twin Dolphin’s front nine, including one on the par-3, 152-yard fourth hole to end his round.

Redshirt junior Cole Anderson also saved his best work for the latter part of the round, shooting a 2-over 73 where he recorded a 33 on his finishing front nine. Anderson’s round included three birdies and was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5, 593-yard first hole. Anderson is tied for 25th.

Sophomore Michael Mays is tied for 34th at 3-over. Brett Roberts is tied at 40th at 4-over, while Luke Clanton is tied at 64th at 7-over.

Florida State finishes third in the opening round in both par 3 scoring (5-over) and par 5 scoring (4-under).

Another shot-gun start begins the second round on Tuesday with a 10 a.m. ET start.
