MOBILE, Ala. (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State Men’s Golf team is looking for a repeat performance at this week’s Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate held Feb. 11-12 at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
The Seminoles hope to repeat in two ways – By winning for the second straight year at the Mobile-based tournament and by duplicating their efforts from last week’s sensational comeback at the Sea Best Invitational.
Momentum is riding high for Florida State after its 10-stroke comeback at TPC Sawgrass that included both a tournament title and a playoff victory for sophomore John Pak. The Scotch Plains, N.J., native shot 4-under and recorded par on the first playoff hole to win the tournament.
The Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate will begin with a shot-gun 9 a.m. EST start on Monday as 36 holes will be played. Tuesday’s start will also be at 9 a.m.
Much of the same lineup returns for the second straight week, as Pak, seniors Corey Carlson and Bennett Baker, junior Jamie Li, sophomore Parker Reddig and freshmen Calvin Sierota and Alberto Martinez will travel.
Baker, a Tallahassee native, played well at TPC Sawgrass last week after finishing tied for 21st at 4-over. He carded a final-round 69 to help lead FSU’s comeback, along with Li’s 69 as well. Sierota’s final-round 67 allowed him to tie for 15th at 3-over.
This year’s tournament includes a 15-team field: Abilene Christian, FSU, Illinois State, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Louisiana, Louisville, Nicholls, North Alabama, Oral Roberts, Richmond, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Texas State and Western Kentucky.
Last year, FSU’s collective 30-under final score marked the lowest ever at the tournament. Li and FSU golf Alum Harry Ellis were co-medalists as they each shot 11-under.
