DUBLIN, Ohio (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State Men’s Golf team dropped its first round of match play on Monday at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, falling to Georgia 4-2. The Seminoles will resume their second-round match against Ohio State on Tuesday morning after ending the day all square with the Buckeyes.
The match-play event that features some of the nation’s best teams is taking place at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Sophomore John Pak won his match 2&1 vs. Georgia, while junior Jamie Li was the other Seminole to win his match against Georgia by finishing 4&2.
The Seminoles’ current match against Ohio State is nearly halfway through, with senior Corey Carlson up 1 through nine holes against the Buckeyes’ Daniel Wetterich. Freshman Calvin Sierota carries a two-hole lead through six holes against Grant Engle.
Freshman Alberto Martinez is all square through nine holes, battling back from a two-hole deficit. Li is also all square with Ohio State’s Kevin Stone through seven holes.
Lightning in the area forced play to end at approximately 6:45 p.m. The second round resumes at 9 a.m. with a shot-gun start on Tuesday. There will not be a third round played.
