PALM CITY, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – Sophomore John Pak garnered another Top-2 finish, placing second at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational while Florida State Men’s Golf tied for ninth on Monday at Floridian National Golf Club.
Pak opened the day with a second-round 69, but followed with a final-round 65 that included seven more birdies. The Scotch Plains, N.J., native led the field with 20 birdies over his three rounds, and was at his best on par 3 holes as he recorded a scoring average of 2.87.
The second and third rounds were squeezed into Monday due to the threat of inclement weather on Tuesday. For Pak, he has now finished second or first in four of his eight tournaments played this year.
The Seminoles ended the Valspar Collegiate Invitational shooting 4-under (278-280-290), which included a 6-over 290 in the final round. Wake Forest (-25) won the tournament, while Oklahoma State’s Matthew Wolff finished first at 14-under.
Freshman Calvin Sierota tied for 31st at even-par, carding a second-round 66 but following with a final-round 78. In his tremendous second round, he had two instances where he recorded three consecutive birdies and a shot 32 on the back nine.
Freshman Alberto Martinez came back strong on Monday, tying for 55th at 7-over. He shot an even 71 in the second round before finishing with a 3-over 74 in the final round.
Jamie Li tied for 61st at 8-over, while Corey Carlson shot 9-over and Jonathan Keppler finished 14-over.
FSU plays its final regular-season tournament with the Cabarrus County Irish Creek Collegiate held April 6-7 in Kannapolis, N.C.
