TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) –
Florida State, which is ranked 13th in this week’s national poll by GolfWeek Magazine, travels to play in its second event of the fall season at the Brickyard Collegiate hosted by Mercer University (Oct. 7-9). The Seminoles, who finished in sixth place at the season opening Olympia Fields / Fighting Illini Invitational, are ranked in the nation’s top 25 this week after opening the season unranked. Florida State is ranked No. 13 by GolfWeek and No. 18 by Golf World Magazine heading into this weekend’s event. The Seminoles finished in front of five teams that were ranked ahead of them in the national rankings at the Olympia Fields Invitational and are currently the second highest ranked team in the ACC (behind No. 7 Virginia) in the GolfWeek poll. Following their participation in the Brickyard Collegiate, the Seminoles will close out play in the fall season at the U.S. Collegiate Championship (Oct. 23-25).
THE BRICKYARD COLLEGIATE FIELD
No. 13 Florida State is joined by No. 20 Georgia, No. 22 Georgia Tech, Air Force, Augusta State, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Colorado State, Gonzaga, Mercer, North Florida, Oklahoma, Texas Arlington and Virginia Tech in the Fifth Annual Brickyard Collegiate at the Brickyard at Riverside Golf Club. Georgia will look to defend their team championship from 2010. The Brickyard at Riverside served as the host site for the 2011 United States Golf Association’s Mid-Amateur Qualifier. The Brickyard at Riverside is an immaculate 18 hole private golf course and sophisticated club nestled within 7,128 yards of pristine landscape in north Macon, Georgia. The course at the Brickyard was originally designed and opened in 1961 and was redesigned by 10-time PGA Tour winner Mark McCumber in 2005.
FLORIDA STATE PLAYS WELL AT THE BRICKYARD
Florida State is making its fourth consecutive appearance in the Brickyard Collegiate Championship and has found success – both team and individual – in its first three appearances in the event. The Seminoles finished in a tie for third in the team standings in 2010, in fourth place in 2008 and in a tie for seventh place in 2009.
KOEPKA ENJOYS PLAYING AT THE BRICKYARD
Senior All-American candidate Brooks Koepka enjoys playing in the Brickyard Collegiate as illustrated by his two most recent individual finishes in the event. He finished in a tie for third in the individual standings in 2010 and in a tie for fifth in 2009. Koepka is a total of eight strokes under par with scores of 211 in 2010 and 141 in the rain shortened Brickyard in 2009. He carded a five under par score of 67 in the second round in 2010 and a three under par score of 69 in the second round in 2009.
GRAHAM HAS ALSO FARED WELL AT THE BRICKYARD
Senior Wesley Graham will play in the Brickyard Collegiate for the third time in this weekend. He finished in a tie for 12th in the individual standings in 2009 with a one under par total of 143 (rain shortened two round event and finished in a tie for 21st place in 2010.
