Rome, GA – Florida State’s men’s tennis team won the opening match of the 2021 ACC Men’s Tennis Championships in convincing fashion Wednesday. The Seminoles defeated Boston College 4-0 and will move into the next round at the tournament.
The Seminoles secured the doubles point before the nation’s 43rd-ranked doubles pair of Loris Pourroy and Marcus Walters could even get off court one. Chase Wood and Andreja Petrovic came off first on court three with a 6-4 win. Alex Knaff and Sebastian Arcila then secured the first point of the match with a 6-2 victory.
Petrovic got the Seminoles off to a good start in singles winning his match 6-2, 6-0 to put the Seminoles in front 2-0. Pourroy may not have been able to finish his doubles match before FSU secured the point but the nation’s 110th-ranked singles player wasted little time coming off in singles. The freshman, playing on line one, rolled to a 6-0, 6-4 win. Walters then clinched the match for Florida State with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
“I liked the quick work by the guys today,” said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We got off to a fast start in doubles with Alex and Sebastian and Chase and Andy. Then Loris and Marcus did the same in singles. We are looking forward to a battle with Notre Dame tomorrow.”
The Seminoles will continue play in the ACC Championships tomorrow. FSU will face fifth-seeded Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. Florida State won the first meeting with the 34th-ranked Fighting Irish 6-1 when the teams met in Tallahassee.
