TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State men’s tennis head coach Dwayne Hultquist has announced the team’s 2019 fall schedule.
“The fall schedule is a combination of national events and some pro tournaments that we will get our top guys going to,” said Hultquist. “A bunch of our guys picked up ATP points this summer so our guys are going to get a good mix of competition.”
The Seminoles are coming off a 19-11 season and their 17th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament that resulted in a second-round appearance.
Florida State’s schedule contains nine tournaments and one home dual match. The fall season will kick-off Sept. 9 with a few players competing in the Davis Cup (South Africa). The team will then compete in the Thomasville Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 13-15) once again in Thomasville, Ga.
The Noles then travel to Destin, Fla. Where they will compete in the Destin Invite (Sept. 20-22). After the invite, there is a quick turnaround as the Oracle ITA Masters begins September 26 in Malibu, Calif.
“From a coaches standpoint, just seeing them compete is what it is all about, what they do on match days and how they handle certain situations,” said first-year assistant coach Christopher Doerr. “I think we have put together a schedule where it should be a lot of fun but at the same time they are playing the best of what college tennis has to offer.”
The ITA All-American Tournament begins Oct. 7 and runs through Oct. 13. The players who will not be attending the qualifiers are staying in Florida to compete in the Bedford Cup (Oct. 11-13). The Garnet and Gold are back in Tallahassee on Oct. 13th to host FAMU.
Florida State finishes off their fall schedule with ITA Regionals in Gainesville, Fla. (Oct. 24) before heading to Lakewood Ranch, Fla. for the Dick Vitale Invite. The Seminoles will end the fall in Newport, Calif. at ITA Nationals (Nov. 6-10).
