Raleigh, NC – The Seminoles’ long road trip through ACC country continued for the men’s tennis team Friday with a stop in Raleigh, NC. Facing their third straight ranked opponent, the Seminole men dropped their match to the 15th-ranked Wolfpack 4-0.
Facing two doubles teams ranked in the top 25 nationally, NCST was able to take the opening point with wins on both lines one and two as the nation’s No. 9 and No. 23 pairs secured the point for NC State.
The Seminoles had a chance to pull two upsets in singles play. While they couldn’t knockoff the nation’s No. 7 player, Loris Pourroy was leading the nation’s No. 95 player 7-5, 5-3 before NCST clinched and the match went unfinished. Both Sebastian Arcila and Andreja Petrovic took their first sets. Arcila was up 3-1 in the second and Petrovic was heading to a third when the match concluded.
“The boys started off with a lot of energy in doubles and got off to a good start,” said FSU Head Coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We were right there in doubles, which would have caused a whole different result. I am pleased with how Sebastian fought back in the first set to put himself in the position to succeed. Loris has been doing great and had the match before it was cut short. Small adjustments on deuce points made a big difference today.”
The Seminoles (5-8, 0-5) will conclude their road trip in Winston-Salem where they will take on No. 12 Wake Forest (13-4, 4-1) Saturday at 2:00 p.m. For more information on the 2021 Seminole Men’s Tennis program, please follow us on social at FSUMTennis (IG) and @FSU_MTennis (TW) and log on to Seminoles.com.
