Men’s Tennis Finishes First Day Of Singles Main Draw Competition

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.– The Florida State men’s tennis team has
finished competition in the qualifying rounds of the ITA Rolex regional, and
began competition in the main draws of both singles and doubles events Friday.

In singles competition Seminole and No. 4 seed of the tournament Xavier
Luscan went up against WFU’s Trent Brendon. Luscan defeated Brendon in
straight sets 6-4, 6-3. Saturday morning Luscan will face Roger Anderson of
Georgia Tech in the round of 32. Freshman Jerrod Owen faced Clemson’s
Marko Gojanovic Friday morning. Owen fell to Gojanovic 1-6, 4-6. Chad
Mooney fell Friday in tournament play to VCU’s Florian Marquardt.

Seminole sophomore Jeff Scarella fell in competition to Tommy Croker of UVA,
but not without putting up a fight. Scarella lost 3-6, 6-2, 3-6. Following
these two losses came freshman Alex Herrera with a win. Herrera defeated
Thomas Miho of CSU 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Herrera will face No. 3 seed Josh Goffi of
Clemson Saturady morning in action in the round of 32.
FSU did not see any doubles action Friday.

Tournament play will continue Saturday morning and will conclude Sunday Nov.
5th in the evening.
