TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Coming off an 18-10 season, the Florida State men’s tennis team has earned their 17th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. FSU is the two seed in the Gainesville regional.
Florida State will take on third-seeded UCF on Friday, May 3rd at 12 pm. First seeded Florida and fourth-seeded Florida Gulf Coast play at 3 pm. The two winners will face off Saturday, May 4th at 2 pm, with all three matches being held at Ring Tennis Complex at the University of Florida.
The Seminoles earned three wins over ranked opponents. They finished 6-6 in the ACC and made it to the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament after a 4-2 win over Duke in their first match of the tournament.
Regional host Florida earned the third national seed after going 21-3 during the season. The Gators made it to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament before losing 4-3 to Tennessee. Florida went 16-3 against ranked opponents this season including a 4-1 win over Florida State at the beginning of the season.
Third-seeded UCF earned an at-large bid into the tournament win a 15-10 overall record. The Knights went 2-1 in the American Athletic Conference Championship. They took down SMU and Wichita State 4-0 before losing to USF 4-3 in the conference championship match.
Florida Gulf Coast earned the fourth seed in the Gainesville Regional after winning the A-Sun Conference a week ago. The Osprey’s beat Kennesaw State 4-0, before beating UNF 4-2 for their third A-Sun conference title.
The winner of the Gainesville regional will advance the round of 16 at a campus site held on the weekend of May 10th.
