ATLANTA, Ga. – The Florida State men’s tennis team defeated the Paladins of Furman University Sunday afternoon at the Peachtree City Tennis Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The match between the two teams was originally scheduled for January 27th in Tallahassee, but was rained out after playing only doubles matches. The Seminoles took the doubles point and five of six singles points to win, 6-1.
In doubles action, the tandem of senior Gustav Bucht and sophomore Romain Jurd defeated Andrew Rogers and Patrick Fillnow of Furman, 8-2, at the no. 2 doubles position. Also in doubles, freshman Mat Cloer and senior Xavier Luscan got a doubles win for the Seminoles at the no. 3 doubles position. Cloer and Luscan defeated Chris Henderson and Allen Simmons 8-5.
In singles, Jurd defeated James Cameron of Furman in straight sets at the no. 2 singles position (6-3, 6-4). Freshman Mat Cloer moved to 7-0 in dual match play with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Fillnow, at the no. 3 position. Also collecting wins for the Seminoles were Luscan, Chip Webb and Alex Herrera.
The Seminoles return home to face the Hatters of Stetson University at 3 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
