Mike Ingham Qualifies For Main Draw At Region II Indoor Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The Florida State men’s tennis team spent
Wednesday and Thursday attempting to qualify for the main draw of the
Region II Indoor Championships that is to begin on Friday. After the
matches were completed late Thursday night, FSU had one singles player
qualify and one doubles team. FSU’s Mike Ingham joined teammate Chad
Mooney in the singles portion of the tournament and Ingham and Jeff
Scarella joined the freshmen combo of Deni Franulovic and Rodrigo Laub in
the doubles draw.

Ingham, a senior, won three matches in two days to place himself in
the 64-man Championship field. Ingham won the match that put him in the
main draw 6-4, 7-6(6) against William & Mary’s Mehdy Karbid. On Friday,
Ingham will play Wake Forest’s Brett Mauro in the first round. Mooney, a
junior, will play Old Dominion’s Patrick Boza Friday morning in the first

In the doubles tournament, Ingham and Scarella will face UVA’s
Winter and Croker in the first round and FSU’s Franulovic and Laub will
play Elon’s Navawengse and Nagle. Ingham and Scarella won three doubles
matches the past two days to qualify for the main draw. Their final match
Thursday was against East Carolina’s Girard and Thalen. Ingham and
Scarella won 8-5 to advance. The FSU duo of junior Jay Travis and
sophomore Noah Schnell won two matches Wednesday to earn the right to play
for a chance to advance to the main draw on Thursday. In action late
Thursday night, the pair lost to Hampton’s Ibler and Lee, 8-5.

Matches were set to begin early Friday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis
Center on the campus of North Carolina.
