Junior pitcher John Gast was the first Florida State player to be taken in the 2010 MLB Draft. The junior left hander from Longwood, Fla. went 199th to the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2010 he is 7-3 with a 5.61 ERA and has 59 strike outs.
Junior Geoff Parker was taken by the Colorado Rockies in the ninth round. The right handed pitcher is from Dade City, Fla. This season for the Seminoles he is 4-1 with an ERA of 4.60.
The next Seminole off the board was Tyler Holt who was taken in the 10th round by the Cleveland Indians. The junior from Gainesville, Fla., has started all 61 games for the Seminoles in center field this year and has started every game since arriving on campus in 2008, a streak of 192 consecutive starts – the longest active streak in the nation. Holt is currently hitting .349 with 82 hits, including 24 doubles and three triples, while driving in 42 runs. Holt established a season-high recording 12 home runs in 2010, while ranking among the league leaders in runs (79), walks (53) and stolen bases (29). He has also turned in another stellar defensive effort in centerfield posting a .993 fielding percentage committing just one error in 150 chances. Holt leads the team in outfield assists with five.
