Moldovan Ends 2005 Singles Season With Loss to Mississippi’s Carlotti

Athens, Ga. – Florida State senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) closed out her senior season on Monday, May 23, 2005 at the NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles Championships in Athens, Ga.

The #9-16 seed and 15th-rated player in the nation was eliminated by #38 Mississippi’s Chloe Carlotti, 6-1, 7-5 during the opening round. Moldovan rebounded in the second set to tie the match with the two-time All-American, at 5-5, before dropping her fifth contest of the season and ending her career with a 17-5 record.

Although it is the end of singles for the All-American, Moldovan joins junior Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, Fla./Boca Raton Prep) in the round of 32 doubles, starting tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. The pair will face #8 Alice Barnes and Erin Burdette from Stanford. The Cardinal won the 2005 NCAA Women’s Tennis Team Championship, going 27-0 this season.
