TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State’s Morgane Metraux shot a final-round 70 and finished in a tie for fourth place at the 2016 European Ladies Amateur Championship as play in the event at the Hooks Golf Club in Jonkoping, Sweden came to a close. Seminole teammate Matilda Castren shot a 69 in the fourth round and finished in a tie for 37th place while Kim Metraux shot a 75 on the final day of play and finished in a tie for 52nd place.
Bronte Law, a rising senior at UCLA from England, shot a 66 in the final round to surpass Leslie Cloots, a rising senior at North Carolina, to take the championship by one stroke. Law totaled a four-round score of 277.
Morgane Metraux (Lausanne, Switzerland) played outstanding golf for the fourth consecutive round of the tournament as she carded scores of 73-62-76-70 for a four-round total of 281. She finished only four strokes behind Law in the race for individual medalist honors. Metraux carded 16 holes at par or better with two birdies and was under par throughout the final round after beginning the day with back-to-back on her first two holes of the day.
Metraux put herself in contention to earn the win with birdies on her first two holes as she moved into a tie for second place.
Metraux’s tied for fourth place finish marks the second time in her career she has finished in the top 10 at the European Ladies Amateur Championship. She finished in eighth place in the individual standings at the 2014 European Ladies Amateur Championship in 2014.
“Morgane Metraux, that’s the girl that I think has impressed me most looking at the warm-ups this morning. She’s also the girl who managed to post a 62 already this week, which is the course record; 62 is an amazingly good golf score on this course. Morgane has crept up to be amongst the reckoning,” said Swedish television commentator Mark Dewdney.
Castren (Espoo, Finland) played her best golf of the tournament as she carded a 3-under par score of 69 to finish with a four-round total of 291. She carded under par scores in both the second (70) and fourth founds (69). Castren totaled a personal-tournament high six birdies and in finishing with her best score of the event in the final round. She totaled 14 birdies during the event.
Castren’s score of 69 in the final round allowed her to improve her standing by 20 places in the individual standings.
Kim Metraux (Lausanne, Switzerland) finished in a tie for 52nd place in the individual standings with a final round score of 75. She carded scores of 72-76-71-75 for a four-round total of 294. Metraux carded scores at par or better in the first (72) and third (71) rounds and totaled 14 birdies over the course of her 72 holes played.
