TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ( – Former Florida State women’s basketball star forward Natasha Howard is set to make her preseason WNBA debut on Tuesday, May 6, as the Indiana Fever host the Washington Mystics at noon at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Howard made program history in several ways, most recently becoming the school’s highest WNBA Draft pick at fifth overall on April 14. She became the first Seminole to be drafted in the WNBA since former player Jacinta Monroe was picked sixth overall in the 2010 draft by the Mystics.

Howard and the Indiana Fever will play their first official game of the 2014 season on Friday, May 16, when they travel to face the Chicago Sky at 8:30 p.m.

A native of Toledo, Ohio, Howard had one of the finest seasons in school history in 2013-14. She earned honorable mention All-America honors from the Associated Press and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, and was a second team Senior Class All-American. She finished her Florida State career with a program-record 41 double-doubles, including a single-season record 15 in her senior season.

One of the most remarkable individual feats was attained by Howard this past season when she accumulated five 30+ point games. All five high-scoring efforts came against ACC competition, including a school-record 40 points in an 83-59 win at Syracuse on Feb. 13.

Howard is currently one of two Seminoles on an active WNBA roster, joining ninth-year pro and former player Roneeka Hodges of the Tulsa Shock. Hodges, who played at FSU as a high-scoring guard in the 2004-05 season, scored 18 points in 25 minutes last Friday as the Shock defeated the San Antonio Stars, 82-59.
