Tallahassee Super Regional Game Three: Texas A&M 11, FSU 2

Texas A&M Head Coach Rob Childress

Opening Statement

“I am proud for our coaches, our players, our university, our community that we were able to win this Super Regional and we are moving on to Omaha.  Very proud for everyone that is involved in our athletic department, our baseball program and our community.”

On the Gatorade bath

“That’s the sweetest one I have ever had.  There are two things that I truly enjoy and that’s number one sitting on the front of the bus listening to our players laugh after we have won a game on the road and number two watching our guys dog pile on the way to Omaha.  I sure enjoyed that one tonight.”

Starting Pitcher Michael Wacha

On the first inning

“Getting the first two outs was big.  That guy (Devin Travis) battled, battled on every pitch that I gave him and ended up drawing the walk.  (Jacob) House made a good play and turned that double play.”

On getting an extra days rest

“Ross Stripling he gave me the opportunity to get an extra days rest.  I knew I had to go out there and throw strikes and help this team go to Omaha.”

Catcher Kevin Gonzalez

On The meaning of going to the College World Series

“It means everything.  I have been with this program for five years.  It’s a great feeling.”

FSU Head Coach Mike Martin

Opening Statement

“Again, you tip your hat to the starting pitcher (Michael) Wacha. He’s the real deal. That was great stuff. You could see it. We only got three hits you have to credit him for the great job that he did.

“Certainly their ballclub played extremely well. When you can go out and give the other club three hits and you don’t make an error, it is a pretty good recipe for success.”

“It is a big disappointment for me because obviously the end is in sight. I am not saying when it is going to be but 32 years I have been blessed to work at Florida State and I love this place. This will make me work even harder next year to try to get to TD Ameritrade.”

On whether this game was a reflection of the challenges the team faced all season

“I think that is what made this season so special is we did have some struggles but yet we kept fighting and overcoming it. When you look at the accomplishment of this ballclub you really have to be pleased. You‘re never totally satisfied if you don’t make the series but when you analyze the entire season you have to be very pleased with what this club accomplished.”

Catcher Rafael Lopez

On Texas A&M’s first inning where the Aggies scored six runs

“It was tough to be in that situation. We were just trying to put something together and hopefully try and make a comeback. A&M did a pretty good job and I wish them well.”
