Nicoletti Expected to Miss 2019-20 Season

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. (Seminoles.com) – Florida State Women’s Basketball was dealt a significant blow this past Thursday, June 20, when rising redshirt freshman point guard Izabela Nicoletti sustained another knee injury – this time her left knee.

The Top-5 rated point guard missed all of her freshman season in 2018-19 due to a season-ending right knee injury. Nicoletti is expected to miss all of the 2019-20 year.

Nicoletti, who hails from Americana, Sao Paulo, Brazil, is a 2018 McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand Classic participant who ranked 16th by ESPNW Hoopgurlz in her 2018 signing class. She played her high school basketball at Neuse Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C., becoming the first female basketball player from The Triangle to be named a McDonald’s All-American.

Nicknamed “Iza,” Nicoletti developed a strong bond with her teammates last year while sitting out due to injury. In her absence, rising senior guard Nicki Ekhomu switched her role from a typical off-the-ball player to more ball-handling duties in the back court in the 2018-19 season.

Nicoletti was named the 2018 North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year, and she was the first Neuse Baptist Christian Alumna to be named the News & Observer Player of the Year in any sport.
