No. 11 Florida State Men’s Tennis Hosts Drake and Georgia Tech This Weekend

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 11 ranked Florida State men’s tennis team (17-1, 2-0 ACC) comes back home after an undefeated three-match road stint to take on Drake (12-9) on Friday, March 16th at 5:30 p.m. and Georgia Tech (5-7, 1-1 ACC) March 18th at 12 p.m.

The Seminoles are 35-30 all-time against the Yellow Jackets and 14-7 against Georgia Tech under head coach Dwayne Hultquist. FSU has outscored them 79-62 in those 21 match-ups. Georgia Tech has garnered most of their scoring from court four as they have gone 8-2 on that court, led by Elijah Melendez who is 4-0 on court four. The Yellow Jackets doubles attack is led by the duo of Michael Kay and Carlos Driver who are ranked 13th nationally. The pair has gone 9-2 at the No. 1 doubles position and has defeated two top-10 opponents.

Florida State is 1-0 all-time against Drake, with their only meeting being a 4-3 win in 2013. The Bulldogs are 12-9 on the season and led by Vinny Gillespie who is 10-8 on court one.

Last Time Out
Florida State defeated Miami at the USTA National Campus on Friday, 4-0. Redshirt senior Jose Gracia led the charge as he won 6-0, 6-0 on court four. The Noles then traveled out to Malibu, Calif. to take on Pepperdine. The Garnet and Gold took down the Waves 4-0.

The Seminoles have recorded three wins vs. ranked opponents in 2018. They defeated No. 24 Texas Tech in Hawaii, No. 8 Florida at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla. and No. 50 Clemson in Athens, Ga.
The number of people who have clinched a match for the Seminoles, led by senior Guy Iradukunda, senior Terrell Whitehurst and freshman Chase Wood who all have three clinches.

Noles in the Polls
In the latest Oracle/ITA poll, Florida State comes in at No. 19. This marks the 19th straight week that the Noles have been ranked in the ITA Poll dating back to February 27, 2017. The Seminoles are also ranked No. 11 in the USTA poll.

The Seminoles are one of seven schools to have at least seven singles players and doubles pairs ranked, and one of two to have four doubles pairs ranked. They have three ranked singles players and four doubles pairs. Senior Guy Iradukunda leads off the pack coming in at No. 16, redshirt senior Lucas Poullain comes in at No. 56 and junior Aziz Dougaz comes in at No. 87. The duo of Guy Iradukunda and Alex Knaff leads the group of doubles pairs coming in at No. 17 in doubles. They are followed by at Jose Gracia and Lucas Poullain at No. 19, Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst at No. 44 and Iradukunda and Dougaz at No. 74.
