No. 12/20 Women’s Tennis Hosts Miami and FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 12/20 ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (6-1) hosts a doubleheader this Saturday, February 16th, against No. 14/15 Miami (12 pm) and FAMU (5 pm) at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.

 

Florida State is 6-32 all-time against the Hurricanes and holds a 3-7 record at home. Last time the two teams met was a season ago at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla. where Miami defeated Florida State 5-2. The Hurricanes are currently on a three-match win streak against the Seminoles.

Miami is led by Estella Perez-Somarriba on court one. She is 6-0 on that court with a perfect 3-0 record against ranked players. She currently ranks as the fourth best singles player in the country. In doubles, the Hurricane pair of Yuna Ito and Ulyana Shirokova come in as their only ranked pair. The duo comes in ranked No. 33 and is 2-2 in doubles matches with a 1-2 record on court one and a 1-0 record on court two.

Against Florida A&M, the Seminoles have never lost, holding a perfect 18-0 record, all at home, including 13 shutout victories.

Last Time Out
Florida State went 2-0 last weekend earning perfect 4-0 sweeps against Florida Gulf Coast and North Florida. Seniors Ana Oparenovic and Ariana Rahmanparast dominated the competition, both winning both of their singles matches in straight sets. Rahmanparast also swept away her competition in doubles, going 2-0 over the weekend with partner Carla Touly.

In the latest Oracle/ITA poll, Florida State comes in at No. 20. This marks the 17th straight week that the Noles have been ranked in the ITA Poll dating back to February 10, 2018. The Seminoles come in at No. 12 in this week’s USTA Poll.

The Seminoles have three ranked singles players (Carla Touly – 49, Ana Oparenovic – 103 and Emmanuelle Salas – 110).
