TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The 15th ranked Florida State women’s tennis team (4-1) bounced back from yesterday’s loss to dominate Clemson (4-2) 4-0 in the final match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
“I am very proud of the girls for their effort today, less than 24 hours after a tough loss,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “The girls did a really good job taking care of their courts. It was great to get the doubles point. We played very solid on all three spots today. I was happy to see the effort today to bounce back from a heartbreaker last night. That is exactly what needed to happen today. I am very proud of their effort. We are going to take the next couple of days to reset things for the next part of the season.”
The Noles took the doubles point for the fifth time this season with a dominating performance on court two and win on court three. Senior Ana Oparenovic and sophomore Emmanuelle Salas swept their opponent taking court two 6-0. They were followed up by Senior Julia Mikulski and junior Andrea Garcia who took court three 6-4 to clinch the doubles point.
Florida State jumped out quick in singles taking all six first sets including 6-0 wins on courts five and six. Salas was the first to finish, taking court three 6-1, 6-3. She was followed up by Mikulski who won 6-0, 6-3 on court six for her first dual match victory of the season. Senior Ariana Rahmanparast clinched her first match of the season with a 6-0, 6-4 win on court five.
The Seminoles will be off next weekend before they host Florida Gulf Coast and North Florida in a doubleheader on February 9th.
