No. 16 Women’s Tennis Falls To No. 11 UF At College Match Day

Lake Nona, FL – The 16th-ranked FSU women’s tennis team’s rematch with the No. 11 Gators at the USTA National Campus ended with the Noles falling 4-1 Saturday night. The Seminoles got a win on court one in singles from 22nd-ranked Petra Hule and were in third sets on two other courts but couldn’t pull out wins on lines two, four and six to force those matches into relevance.

Facing two doubles teams ranked in the top 50, Florida got out to the early lead. The nation’s 24th-ranked pair took the point on court one 6-2. On court two, the Gators’ 46th-ranked pair also secured a win to put Florida up 1-0.

Hule quickly evened the match on court one in singles. The senior, who played the majority of 2021 on lines four and five, proved once again she is ready to take the top spot in the lineup as she cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win to improve to 5-0 in duals this season all on court one. Florida retook the lead on court two after winning a hard-fought tiebreaker in set one and then taking the second set. The Seminoles took the first set on both courts five and six but were unable to hold on to the lead on six after already falling behind 3-1 after dropping a point on four.

FSU returns home Tuesday, February 8 for an 11:30 am match versus North Florida. For the most up-to-date information on the Seminole Women’s Tennis program, please follow us on social at FSUWTennis (IG) and @FSU_WTennis (TW) and log on to Seminoles.com.
