Oct. 6, 2003

The Florida State University women’s golf team is tied for first with the University of Oklahoma in the team standings and Seminole senior Alison Curdt is in first place in the individual standings at Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate at the New Mexico State University Golf Course. GolfWeek Magazine ranks the Seminoles 18th and Oklahoma seventh in the most recent national rankings.

All five of Florida State’s golfers finished the first round of play ranked within the tournament’s top 20. Only the Seminoles and Oklahoma have all five of their golfers in the top 20 heading into the second round.

Curdt (St. Louis, Mo.) shot a two-under par 70 in the first round and has the lead by one stroke over Sara Odelius of the University of Hawaii. Curdt came within one stroke of tying her career-low round of 69 that came at the fall 2002 Tar Heel Invitational. She is playing the best golf of her career this season after finishing in a career-best fourth place and helping lead the Seminoles to the team championship at the University of Alabama/Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate two weeks ago. She is averaging 73.33 strokes per round during the first three rounds of the fall season.

Seminole senior Carrie Sordel (Windermere, Fla.) shot a one-over par 73 and begins second round play in a tie for seventh place. She has now carded nine rounds with scores of 73 or better during her four-year career at Florida State. Katie Quinney (Atlantic Beach, Fla.), the third senior in the Seminoles’ starting lineup, is tied for 10th in the individual standings with a two-over par score of 74.

Seminole sophomore Caroline Larsson (Danderyd, Sweden) and freshman Jaclyn Burch (Wildwood, Mo.) are tied for 20th with first round scores of 76.

Round two of the Price’s ‘Give ‘Em Five’ Intercollegiate tournament will begin tomorrow with tee times set for 9:44 a.m. ET.
