TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 20 ranked Florida State men’s tennis team (6-0) hosts a doubleheader on Saturday against Florida Gulf Coast (0-2) at 10 a.m. and East Tennessee State (0-0) at 3 p.m. after coming off of a Florida State Spring Invitational championship a week ago.
“It’s our second home weekend,” said head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We are going to get a chance to play outside, which is important for us to get ready for the kickoff weekend next week.”
The Seminoles come into the weekend a perfect 5-0 all-time against the Eagles, including a 7-0 win in January or last year. FGCU comes into the weekend after two straight losses to UNC-W and BYU. This will be the Garnet and Gold’s first time taking on East Tennessee State.
“We have two good teams coming in here Saturday. Florida Gulf Coast won the Atlantic Sun last year and East Tennessee State made the NCAA tournament as well. They are two pretty good teams that will come in here and fight hard. We have to get ready to have another good weekend like we did last week.”
Redshirt senior Lucas Poullain, senior Guy Iradukunda and junior Aziz Dougaz have emerged as leaders on the court this season as they enter the weekend with a combined 17-0 record at the top three positions in singles.
The Noles look to use this weekend to tune up some things before they head to Waco, Texas to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend against Purdue on January 27th and then either Baylor or UNLV on January 28th.
Noles in the Polls
