Durham, N.C.– The No. 23 Florida State men’s tennis team defeated NC Central, but fell to No. 32 NC State on Sunday afternoon.
Florida State took an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point against NC Central after victories by Joshua Dous-Karpenschif and Youcef Rihane and Barnaby Smith and Maks Silagy. The Seminoles won on both courts No. 1 and No. 2 by a 6-1 margin.
Silagy earned his first dual win of the season in singles play after earning the Seminoles their second point of the afternoon with a 6-0, 6-1 victory on court No. 5.
Sophomore John Bernard’s 6-1, 6-2 straight-set win at No. 6 gave him his first win of the season and Florida State a 3-0 lead.
In their first appearances at courts No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 Andreja Petrovic, Jamie Connel and Alex Bulte’s straight-set victories all but cemented the Seminoles second 7-0 victory of the season.
Barnaby Smith’s 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 4 clinched the 7-0 win for Florida State.
NC State won the doubles point after winning 6-2 on court No.1 and 6-3 on court No. 2. Silagy and Smith won 6-2 on court No. 3 for the Seminoles.
Straight-set-victories on courts No. 3 and No. 4 gave the Wolfpack match point, before Luca Stahheli’s win at No. 2 clinched the match for NC State.
No. 4-Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc led No. 77-Damien Salvestre 5-3 in the third set when the match concluded.
Dous-Karpenschif and Connel both won their first sets before the match concluded, with Dous-Karpenschif winning 7-5 and Connel winning 6-4.
Florida State is now 10-5 on the season. The Seminoles return home to play Louisville on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available on Seminoles.com.
